On Sunday March 11  local Orlando resident Nick Snider was attacked by three people simply for talking with his friends.  The incident took place outside of  Monkey Bar located at 26 Wall Street .  Sunday nights the bar host a mixed evening with both gays and straights in attendance.  Nick Snider’s boyfriend has stated “My boyfriend was the victim of a hate crime.”  When asked what took place McCarron responded with saying “As him (Nick) and I were leaving the venue on Central two men and one woman began calling him derogatory names.  One man attempted to attack me, punching me in the face.  I was able to minimize him,  but as I turned I saw another man, standing over my boyfriend,  along with a woman.  They had attacked him from behind.  He eventually fell to the ground.  I was 30 feet away when I turned and saw him on the ground covering his face as they continued to brutally kick and punch him.  By the time I could get to him they ran off to a bar on the other block.”   Witnesses say that  OPD was called twice.  The first call resulted in no units arriving.  After a second call 5 bike officers came down the street.  They pulled in the ally between the building monkey bar is in and the building to its right.   “We could see them from the balcony of monkey bar, and said to come up here.”    One of the officers was overheard saying ‘fag’ in his conversation.  A witness states “We waited for them to come up stairs.  After it became quite apparent that they were not going to come up stairs the dj offered McCarron his phone to video tape the officers not responding.

Nick suffered severe injuries, resulting in damage to his back, a broken hand, 3 broken teeth, as well as bruises all over his body where the attackers kicked him while he was in the fetal position.
